Wear plates on agricultural equipment take a beating from soil, rocks and crop residue. They are made from thick steel, sometimes 6 mm or more, and they need to be produced in large volumes without the die falling apart. A standard progressive die would be too expensive to rebuild when one section wears. Our modular design breaks the die into separate cutting and forming units, each mounted on its own sub-plate.
When a cutting module wears out, you unbolt it from the main die base and bolt in a replacement. The replacement module is pre-aligned at our factory using dowel pins and a setting gauge, so it drops into position without on-site adjustment. This means a worn section can be changed in a few hours instead of sending the entire die back to China for refurbishment.
Thick steel puts high loads on the die structure. We use a stress-relieved cast base and oversized guide posts to keep the die rigid under these forces. The cutting edges are made from a shock-resistant tool steel grade that resists chipping better than standard D2 under impact loading. Each die ships with a module map showing the function of each station and the recommended spare modules for your production volume.
