Heat exchanger fins are made from thin aluminium strip, often only 0.1 mm thick, and they are produced in enormous quantities. The cutting edges in a conventional steel die wear out quickly on this abrasive material, forcing frequent regrinding and press downtime. We solve this by fitting tungsten carbide inserts at every cutting station. Carbide lasts 10 to 20 times longer than tool steel on aluminium, so the die stays in the press for much longer campaigns.
The louver forming stations use a progressive sequence that bends the fin louver gradually rather than in one hit. This avoids tearing the thin aluminium and produces a uniform louver angle across the entire fin height. The fin die is also built as an independent sub-unit with its own guide posts, so it can be removed from the main die base for maintenance without disturbing the rest of the tooling.

We set the carbide inserts in hardened steel holders with a slight interference fit, so they stay locked in place under press vibration but can still be pressed out and replaced when worn. Each die ships with a spare set of carbide inserts and a dimensional report showing fin pitch, louver angle and hole position. This lets your quality team verify incoming fin stock against the same baseline we used at tryout.
