Selection of automobile stamping die materials



Due to the different functions of various parts in the mold, the requirements for its materials and the principles of selection are different. Therefore, reasonable selection of die materials is also an important operation in die design, it has a great impact on the cost of the die and the quality of production.


At present, with the development of the automobile industry in our country, people have more standards for the quality and demand of automobile products. The key factor which affects the performance of automobile is the selection of stamping die materials.

Generally speaking, automotive stamping die materials need to meet the following conditions:

1. For the automobile stamping die with simple shape and small size, T8A, T10A and other common carbon tool steel materials can meet the production requirements.


2. For the automobile stamping die with complex shape and large size, alloy tool steel or high-speed tool steel is often used, such as Cr12, Cr12MoV, W18Cr4V, W6MoS, Cr4V2 and so on, as the stamping die material.


3. Some automobile molds have high requirements on stamping accuracy and service life, so they are commonly used as raw materials such as YG15, YG20, GW50 and so on.


4. There are many large parts in the automobile stamping die. They are commonly made of ordinary cast iron or cast carbon steel, such as gray cast iron HT250 and cast steel 2G270-500, and some dies will be strengthened by surfacing welding at the cutting edge.


Automobile stamping die is divided into many kinds. In addition to the material selection of the main working die, we should also pay attention to the material of the guide column and guide kit. Generally, the low carbon steel or bearing steel of high quality carbon steel can meet the production and quenching needs.


Under normal circumstances, the manufacturing of automobile stamping die should go through the following procedures, that is, forging, cutting and heat treatment. In order to ensure the manufacturing quality of the mold and reduce the production cost, the material should have excellent malleability, cutting machinability, hardenability, hardenability, grindability and decarbonization sensitivity, so the selection of materials for the automobile mold is important and strict.
