Practical Operation of Metal Stamping Die Processing and Stamping Part Forming Quality Control

product-750-500

Metal stamping die processing must follow standardized procedures. The practical details of each key step are as follows: In the design phase, the actual dimensions and forming requirements of the stamped part are the core. Combined with the stamping equipment parameters, detailed die processing drawings are created, clearly defining key parameters such as cavity contour, guide mechanism layout, and blanking clearance. This ensures the die structure is suitable for production conditions, providing clear standards for subsequent processing and assembly. Material selection must be combined with the stamping process type. For blanking dies, high wear-resistant alloy steels such as Cr12MoV and SKD11 are preferred. For deep drawing and forming dies, H13 die steel is used. After raw materials arrive, they must undergo flaw detection to remove internal inclusions, cracks, and other defects, laying the foundation for die durability. Rough machining uses a combination of CNC milling and conventional lathes to quickly form the main die contour and tooling positioning surfaces. A 0.2-0.4mm finishing allowance is reserved according to the die dimensions to avoid stress deformation during finishing. Precision machining utilizes precision grinding, electrical discharge machining (EDM), and wire EDM to refine details such as the mold cavity and cutting edges, ensuring critical dimensional tolerances are controlled within ±0.003mm and surface roughness reaches Ra≤0.02μm. Heat treatment employs a combined process of vacuum quenching + deep cryogenic treatment + low-temperature tempering, with quenching temperatures controlled at 1050-1080℃ and tempering temperatures at 200-220℃, stabilizing the mold hardness at HRC58-62, balancing hardness and toughness, and improving impact and deformation resistance. After heat treatment, the mold is assembled sequentially: mold base, guide pillars and bushings, cavity inserts, and ejector mechanism. Following assembly, trial molding and debugging are performed, adjusting parameters such as stamping force and guide clearance to ensure smooth mold operation without jamming or abnormal noise, meeting the needs of mass production stamping.

The quality of stamped parts forming requires full-process control, with the following key control points: Raw materials must be selected from sheet metal that meets industry standards. SPHC cold-rolled sheet metal is used for automotive parts stamping, while 304 stainless steel sheet is used for appliance parts. Before arrival, the sheet metal thickness uniformity and surface flatness are checked, with thickness error controlled within ±0.04mm. The surface must be free of oxide scale, scratches, inclusions, and other defects, reducing forming defects from the source. Die clearance must be precisely calibrated according to the sheet metal thickness and material, set at 4%-7% of the sheet metal thickness, with deviation controlled within 0.002mm. Excessive clearance can lead to excessive burrs on the stamped parts' edges, while insufficient clearance can cause surface scratches and rapid wear of the die cutting edges. Stamping process parameters must be optimized based on workpiece dimensions and material. Stamping pressure must be precisely controlled according to the design value, with a deviation not exceeding ±4%. Stamping speed is controlled between 25-110 times/minute depending on the complexity of the part. A water-based special lubricant is used to reduce the friction coefficient between the die and the sheet metal, ensuring a stable forming process. Establish a routine mold maintenance mechanism, conducting comprehensive inspections of the mold cutting edges and guiding mechanisms every 80,000 cycles. Timely grinding and repair of worn cutting edges, adjustment of guide clearances, and replacement of worn parts such as aging springs and guide pillars ensure dimensional consistency of stamped parts and a stable finished product qualification rate of over 99.6%.

By standardizing the operation of each stage of mold processing and strictly implementing quality control of stamped parts forming, stamping production efficiency can be effectively improved by over 30%, significantly reducing scrap losses. Currently, automation and intelligent manufacturing technologies are gradually being applied to mold processing and quality control. By introducing integrated CAD/CAM design systems and intelligent testing equipment, digital control of mold processing and quality inspection is achieved, further improving processing accuracy and control efficiency. Enterprises need to continuously optimize processing techniques based on actual production needs, strengthen detailed control at each stage, and ensure stable performance and quality of stamped products, meeting the high-precision and high-quality development demands of modern manufacturing.
