Multi-Station Deep Drawing Die For Stainless Steel Kitchen Sinks

A kitchen sink bowl is one of the deepest draws in sheet metal work. Trying to form it in a single press hit almost always causes tearing near the bottom radius. Our die splits the process into four or five stages, each one drawing the metal a little deeper than the last. This gradual approach keeps the material flowing instead of ripping.

Stainless steel work-hardens as it deforms, meaning it gets harder and less formable with each drawing pass. We compensate by annealing the material between certain stages when needed and by adjusting blank holder pressure station by station. The die uses nitrogen gas springs for the blank holder, which give consistent pressure throughout the entire stroke rather than fading as the spring compresses.

The drawing punches and die rings are made from premium cold-work tool steel and heat-treated to 60-62 HRC. After heat treatment, we polish the drawing radii by hand to remove any tool marks that could transfer to the sink surface. The final station includes a coining pass that flattens the rim area and sets the final bowl depth within +/-0.1 mm of your specification.
