Differences in Stamping Processes for Different Metal Materials

Steel plate is the most commonly used material in stamping operations. Its stamping process requires careful consideration of the balance between hardness and toughness. Ordinary low-carbon steel plates have good ductility and can be stamped with conventional pressures and dies, suitable for various processes such as punching, bending, and stretching. The operation is relatively simple and less prone to cracking and deformation. High-strength steel plates, however, have high hardness and toughness, requiring increased stamping pressure, the use of wear-resistant and sharp die edges, and reduced slide speed to prevent die wear and workpiece chipping during stamping. After processing, the oxide scale on the workpiece surface must be cleaned promptly.
The stamping process for aluminum plates differs significantly from that of steel plates, primarily due to its soft texture and susceptibility to scratches. Aluminum plates have excellent ductility but low hardness and are easily deformed. Therefore, stamping pressure must be reduced, and smooth die cavities must be used to prevent the die edges from scratching the workpiece surface. When laying out the workpieces, the spacing between them needs to be increased to prevent scratches from friction between aluminum plates. During the stretching process, special lubricating oil should be applied to reduce friction between the die and the workpiece, avoiding defects such as tearing and wrinkling. After processing, proper surface protection is necessary to prevent oxidation.

Besides steel and aluminum plates, other commonly used metal stamping processes also have their own focuses. Copper plates are relatively soft and have good electrical conductivity, so the stamping pressure needs to be moderate, and the die needs to be treated to prevent the copper plate from sticking to the die. Stainless steel plates are tough and prone to work hardening, requiring the use of special dies, increased lubrication, and controlled stamping speed to prevent workpiece deformation and die wear. Reasonably distinguishing the process differences between different materials and accurately adjusting parameters and dies are essential to ensuring stamping quality and improving production efficiency.
