Fine Blanking Die For Flat Transmission Clutch Plates

Fine blanking is different from normal stamping because the sheet is clamped hard by a ring gear before the punch starts cutting. This pressure stops the metal from tearing and produces a smooth cut zone through the full sheet thickness. The result is a flat plate with edges that look machined, not stamped.

The die has a movable counter punch under the part. During cutting, this punch pushes upward against the plate center, which keeps the part flat and prevents bending at the cut line. After the cut, the counter punch moves down to let the finished plate drop out cleanly.

The tooling clearances are much tighter than standard blanking, so the die set is made with extra guide pillars and a thick backing plate. The punch and die inserts are ground to a fine finish and checked on a profile projector. For transmission part suppliers, this die replaces the old method of blanking plus shaving and saves one full process step.
