Prevention and Control of Scratching in Aluminum Alloy Stamping Dies

I. Analysis of the Causes of Scratching in Aluminum Alloy Stamping Dies
Aluminum alloys have high surface activity, making them prone to adhesion to the die surface during stamping, resulting in scratches and scraping. Aluminum alloys have good plasticity, and their high fluidity during complex shape forming exacerbates friction and shearing at the die-material contact point, leading to die surface wear. Unoptimized die structure design resulting in material flow path concentration in localized areas also causes scraping. Rough die surfaces and insufficient lubrication further aggravate scraping.
II. Prevention and Control Measures for Scratching in Aluminum Alloy Stamping Dies
1. Optimize Die Design: Use rounded designs for die cavities, cutting edges, and transition areas, with a radius of 0.2-0.5mm, to avoid sharp corners. Add guide plates at key material flow points and design lubrication grooves with a width of 2-3mm and a depth of 1-1.5mm to optimize material flow path, reduce localized stress concentration, lower friction, and reduce scraping.
2. Utilizing advanced mold materials and surface treatment technology: The mold punches and cavities are made of H13 or SKD11 high-hardness wear-resistant mold steel, vacuum quenched to a hardness of HRC58-62; the surface is treated with ion nitriding or TiN coating, with a nitriding layer thickness of 0.15-0.3mm and a coating thickness of 0.005-0.01mm, improving the mold surface lubrication and wear resistance, and preventing material adhesion to the mold.


3. Reasonable process parameter control: The stamping speed is controlled at 10-30 times/minute, and the stamping pressure is set according to the thickness and tensile strength of the aluminum alloy material, with an error not exceeding ±5%, ensuring stable material flow and reducing uneven deformation; before starting the machine daily, the mold surface is cleaned of iron filings and impurities, and the mold surface is polished weekly with polishing compound to maintain a surface roughness Ra≤0.8μm, avoiding accelerated wear and tear.
4. Application of advanced lubrication solutions: Use special lubricants for aluminum alloys, and give priority to environmentally friendly water-based stamping oil (oil content ≤5%) or solid lubricants (graphite, PTFE). Spray evenly on the mold cavity and aluminum alloy surface before stamping to ensure adequate lubrication. During continuous stamping, add lubricant every 30-50 pieces to control the coefficient of friction to within 0.1, thereby reducing mold wear and scratches on the aluminum alloy surface.
