Hot stamping heats the sheet metal to its austenitizing temperature range and holds it at that temperature until homogeneous, causing a phase transformation in the material's internal structure. This significantly reduces its yield strength and deformation resistance, substantially improving its plasticity and ductility. This allows materials such as high-strength steel and titanium alloys, which are difficult to form in the cold state, to have good deformation adaptability. Consequently, the flow is more uniform and the filling is more complete during the stamping process, effectively reducing the incidence of defects such as localized tearing, necking, wrinkling, and uneven deformation.

At the forming mechanism level, the high-temperature environment effectively relaxes the internal stress of the material and suppresses work hardening effects, enabling the forming of complex curved surfaces and deep cavity structures in one or fewer processes. Meanwhile, the hot stamping process, combined with die pressure holding and cooling, allows for simultaneous phase transformation and dimensional stabilization, improving the internal grain distribution of the material, reducing residual stress during forming, and enhancing the dimensional stability, uniformity, and mechanical properties of the parts. This, in turn, improves the structural strength, fatigue life, and long-term reliability of the product.

Compared to cold stamping, hot stamping is better suited to the demands of modern manufacturing for high-strength, highly complex, and high-precision structural components, particularly in automotive body structural parts and aerospace components. In actual production, hot stamping significantly reduces forming loads, minimizes instantaneous impact and frictional wear on the die, slows die surface wear, chipping, and deformation, extends the overall service life of the die, and reduces the frequency of die repair and replacement.
