The design of composite forming processes for precision medical molds is highly challenging

Medical precision stamping parts are often characterized by their minute structures, uneven wall thickness, and complex shapes. A single forming process cannot complete the overall shaping; therefore, a composite forming process involving bending, stretching, cutting, and shaping is necessary. Mold design requires simultaneous matching of multi-station process layouts, material flow paths, and deformation patterns. The forming logic of each station is interconnected and mutually restrictive, making conventional single-process design approaches unsuitable for the composite production requirements of medical parts.

Medical parts have stringent requirements for dimensional tolerances, surface finish, and forming consistency. Composite forming processes must simultaneously control multiple parameters such as springback, material rheology, and station connection gaps. The design process must balance the independent forming accuracy of each process with the parameter coupling relationships between processes. Deviations in parameters at any station will be transmitted to subsequent processes, causing defects such as part deformation, dimensional errors, and surface scratches, increasing the overall difficulty of process design control.

Composite medical molds need to integrate multiple structures including forming, positioning, unloading, and waste removal, with a compact layout and limited space. The design must not only meet the process forming logic, but also take into account mold rigidity, maintenance and disassembly, mass production stability, and compatibility with medical materials. Without the support of a mature and standardized design system, it is only possible to rely on experience for repeated verification and trial mold adjustments, resulting in long design cycles and low error tolerance, which has become the main difficulty in the research and development and manufacturing of precision medical molds.
