Fatigue Cracks Caused by Prolonged High-Load Operation of Stamping Dies

The Root Cause of Fatigue Cracks: The Inevitable Challenge of Prolonged High-Load Operation
Every stamping action of a stamping die is a superposition of stress cycles. When a die operates under high load for an extended period, the continuous alternating stress constantly impacts the die's metal structure, much like repeatedly bending a metal wire. Even if the individual force is within the tolerance range, the accumulated fatigue effect will gradually undermine the material's toughness. This stress accumulation from prolonged high-load operation first forms microcracks at stress concentration points in the die-such as sharp corners, rounded transitions, and the edges of slots. These microcracks continue to expand during subsequent stamping operations, eventually evolving into visible fatigue cracks.

More importantly, prolonged high-load operation is often accompanied by a deterioration of the die's working environment. High temperature, high pressure, and insufficient lubrication accelerate the fatigue process of the die material. For example, in high-intensity stamping operations, the die surface temperature rises sharply, the material hardness decreases accordingly, and the fatigue resistance is significantly weakened. Even if the load does not exceed the theoretical limit, the cumulative effect of prolonged high-load operation will significantly advance the onset of fatigue cracks. It can be said that fatigue cracks caused by the long-term high-load operation of stamping dies are an inevitable result of the combined effects of stress accumulation, environmental degradation, and material properties; they are by no means accidental.

The Dangers of Fatigue Cracks: A Production Crisis with a Single Thread Affecting the Entire System
Fatigue cracks caused by the long-term high-load operation of stamping dies are by no means insignificant flaws, but rather a "time bomb" threatening the entire production process. When fatigue cracks progress from minute to significant, the die's precision rapidly diminishes, resulting in stamped products exhibiting dimensional deviations, burrs, and deformation. This directly leads to a sharp drop in product yield, resulting in a large number of defective products that not only waste raw materials but also delay order delivery and damage the company's reputation.
