Preliminary Inspection After Stamping Die Machining

After stamping die machining, the first thing that catches the eye is its appearance. This seemingly simple exterior actually hides many secrets. Carefully examine the die surface for obvious scratches, dents, or cracks. These minor imperfections can cause stress concentration during stamping, leading to die damage or product defects. For example, a small scratch may cause accelerated wear during subsequent use, affecting the die's lifespan and the quality of the stamped parts. Simultaneously, check that all die components are tightly assembled and free of looseness. Loose components may generate vibration during stamping, affecting not only stamping accuracy but also potentially causing further damage to the die.
Dimensional accuracy is one of the core points of the preliminary inspection after stamping die machining. Use precise measuring tools, such as calipers and micrometers, to measure the die's critical dimensions. From the clearance between the punch and die to the overall thickness of the die, every dimensional data point is closely related to the final product's forming effect. Appropriate clearance ensures uniform material deformation during stamping, preventing problems such as tearing or wrinkling; while accurate die thickness affects the stability of stamping pressure and the flatness of the product. If dimensional deviations exceed the allowable range, timely adjustments or repairs are necessary to avoid producing defective products.

Functional testing of the die is also crucial. Simulating the actual stamping production process, applying pressure to the die and observing whether its blanking and forming functions are normal. Checking for neat, burr-free cut surfaces after blanking, and verifying that the shape and dimensions of the formed parts meet design requirements. This step is like a practical exercise for the die; only dies that perform well in the simulated "battlefield" can function effectively in formal production.
Furthermore, the markings and labels on the die must be checked. Clear markings help operators quickly identify the die's model, specifications, and purpose, preventing production accidents caused by misuse. Correct and complete labeling is also an important basis for die management, facilitating die storage, maintenance, and traceability.
