In the past, many parts were manufactured using turning, which is costly and results in significant material waste. Forming parts using the metal drawing process effectively controls wall thickness and produces high-quality cup-shaped parts, especially those requiring high strength, compactness, and light weight. Metal drawing is also a good choice for geometries that are difficult to form using other processes.

Material Ductility: Metal drawing is a cold forming technique that can create desired deep or hollow shapes from sheet metal. Forming parts can be challenging if the material is too hard or has poor conductivity.

Engineer Expertise and Material Knowledge: Engineers must evaluate material ductility, elongation, and the potential changes in material thickness during the metal drawing process based on customer designs and requirements. Therefore, sufficient process and material knowledge is essential.

Machine Selection: Part design and metal (height) determine whether the machine should be single-station or multi-station; whether it should be progressive or variable; and the machine's buffer capacity. Metal drawing is not suitable for all precision parts: the production process needs to be evaluated based on the product design.
